Franklin County Jail Release Paths
Franklin County Jail is the county detention center run by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Confirm a Franklin County Jail Release
No official public roster, 24-hour release list, or 72-hour release list was found on the Franklin County, Georgia website. That makes a Sheriff's booking and release record the strongest local proof. Do not use the similarly named Franklin County, Alabama roster. It covers a different jail and state.

The GDC listing calls it Franklin County Jail, but that listing does not turn the facility into a state prison. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office remains the local operator and release-record source.
Request Franklin County Jail Records

The Sheriff's response can include charges for search, retrieval, copying, redaction, or supervised inspection. Payment is required when the records are received. Georgia's Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71, allows access while preserving exemptions and court-ordered limits. Restricted, juvenile, sealed, or active investigative material may not be public.
Booking photographs have a separate rule. O.C.G.A. § 35-1-19 restricts law-enforcement disclosure when a photo may be posted by a publication or website that demands payment for deletion. The Sheriff reviews the request under that law. A photo is an identification record, not proof that the person is still held or has been released.
Franklin County Jail Court Records
The release record tells when county custody ended. The court docket often tells why. Franklin County's Clerk of Superior and Juvenile Courts handles criminal filing and processing, records management, court registry work, and related case records. Its docket may show charges, bond orders, pleas, sentencing documents, probation terms, revocations, dismissals, or final disposition entries.
A person who bonds out remains subject to the case. Someone credited with time served may leave jail and begin probation. Another person may finish the county stay only because a felony sentence sends them to GDC. These outcomes can look the same if all that is known is that the person is no longer at the jail. Reading the release and court records together resolves that gap.

Franklin County Jail GDC Transfers
A transfer to state custody requires a new search path. The GDC offender query can be searched by name, GDC ID, or case number. Compare age, offense, county of conviction, case identifiers, and photograph if available. Common names and aliases make a name-only match weak.
GDC records use state-sentence terms such as maximum release date and tentative parole month. Those fields do not describe the date the person left Franklin County Jail. They describe parts of the state-custody and parole process. A tentative parole month is not final. The Parole Board conducts a later review and may set, change, postpone, or cancel a release date.
GDC advises users to verify public offender-search information in writing with Inmate Records and Information, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029. The Sheriff's release record and GDC record should form a chain: one shows the county transfer, and the other shows the state custody that followed.
Supervision After a Franklin Release
A person leaving the jail under felony probation, parole, or a split sentence may report through the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. Franklin County is served by the DCS Elberton Field Office at 233 N. Oliver Street, Elberton, Georgia. The office serves Franklin and other Northern Circuit counties. It is a supervision office, not a jail or release archive.
Local misdemeanor probation can use a different channel. The Northern Judicial Circuit Probation Office lists a Franklin County location at 9592 Lavonia Highway in Carnesville, open by appointment. The court sentence determines which form of supervision applies. Confirm the legal authority in the docket before choosing an office.
Parole means conditional release from a state prison sentence. Probation is imposed by a court. Discharge is the formal end of the relevant custody or supervision term. A jail exit does not by itself establish any of those later statuses.
Franklin County Jail Federal Transfers
No evidence in the research identifies Franklin County Jail as a federal prison or ICE detention contract facility. Federal and immigration custody can still follow a county stay. A federal hold or U.S. Marshals transfer should be traced through the county release record and the federal case. The BOP locator applies when the person enters the federal prison system.

The official county name is Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Detention Center. GDC's location directory uses Franklin County Jail. Both names refer to the local county facility at 1 James Little Street in Carnesville. The Sheriff's responsibilities include jail operations as well as patrol, courthouse security, investigations, narcotics work, and civil process.
